My name is Eduardo Jimenez Pons, and I am Founder and President of The Broadway Star Project. I was born into show business and together with my wife Coty, we have created, written, and directed many of the most successful shows for NBC Universal Telemundo, Televisa, Univision, Disney Buenavista, and Viacom. Still, all our experience could have never prepared us for what came after we got "the call” telling us that our 11-year-old son had landed a role in a Broadway musical.
Relocation, representation, education, contracts, unions, banks, permits, social media, meals, transportation, protocols! And that was just in the first two weeks of the most amazing and life-changing adventure of our lives, being the parents of a Broadway kid!
There were many challenges, and at times it was extremely hard but it was always worth it! Then, after 10 of the best months of my son's life, it was over, and he – just like many other kids – was (in his own words) unemployed.
Luckily, during his time at School Of Rock, Coty and I had an education of our own – often by trial and error – listening to the stories of kids and parents from other Broadway shows and tours, as well as from Casting Directors, Talent Agents, Managers Actors, Coaches, Directors, Choreographers, and Producers.
As a result, we thought of developing a support system for parents and a structure to generate real opportunities for actors on their way to becoming Broadway kids (or are currently between shows). This initiative would assemble the people and resources for young actors to learn and grow their craft in a professional environment. Top teachers, coaches, and mentors would capture the young artist's attention, push them to their full potential, and inspire their imaginations as they embark on this exciting journey to their dreams.
In time, with the support, experience, and vision of our partners and fellow SOR parents, Ron and Linda Harris, this idea became a reality, and now we can offer these learning and performing opportunities through The Broadway Star Project.
